Date Spot of the Week:

St. Tropez (West Village)

Cuisine: French

Pros: Good drink selection, super dignified spot for how easy it is

Cons: Loud inside

Good for Date #: First date cheat code, but also fine for any other

Secret Sauce: Sit in the COVID hut outside. Mood lighting is perfect, not too loud, feels more exclusive

Win of the Week:

4 days until football.

Mood rn:

Time to neglect your loved ones, professional lives, and Sunday diets for the next 22 weeks: football season is officially among us.

Tiny Hoss of the Week:

New Orleans Saints Kicker, Blake Grupe

Listed at 5’7 156, Grupe has reportedly been stopped multiple times by New Orleans security under the assumption that he is a fan. He was even stopped after kicking a game-winner to beat the Chiefs in Week 1 of pre-season. He answered by locking down the starting kicker spot on the Saints roster going into the year. #THM (Tiny Hoss Move)

Don’t Sleep On:

Brandon Aiyuk

Literally handing out draft advice to people in my league but that’s how passionate about the ASU man that is Brandon Aiyuk. Deebo was hurt for a few games last year - fine. Aiyuk still managed to pull in more yards per game as well as touchdowns per game. Deebo himself praised Aiyuk this offseason. Don’t expect him to be available in later rounds as he was previous years so think about jumping on him earlier than you think you should.

Athlete You Probably Forgot About of the Week:

Norris Cole

Jersey of the Week:

San Antonio Spurs 2020-2021 City Edition - ‘Fiesta’

Movie of the Week:

Oppenheimer (2023)

J Robert Oppy - my literal boy. Yes yes, this movie came out weeks ago and everyone already rushed to the theaters to see it. This post is not for you. It’s for the people who - like me - decided to be contrarians and see it on their own schedule; the people who say “Chris Nolan puts out great spectacles but is missing heart in his stories”. Oppenheimer proves us so wrong: get your ass to the theater and see it. If not in IMAX, in 70mm.

PS

The soundtrack has been playing in the Sherwyn household on repeat for the last week.

Edit: Saw for a second time in 6 days with the ‘rents. Was just as good if not better.

Song of the Week:

Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole

Click to listen.

You would never know that Israel Kamakawiwo’ole stood at 6’2 ~750 pounds by just listening to his voice in this song, which he recorded in a single take in 1988. The song would go on to top the charts in 2004 after being included in Adam Sandler’s 50 First Dates (the same place I found it) and has accumulated over 338,000,000 streams on Spotify. In 2020, the song was selected for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” and holds the record for longest-leading number-one hit on any of the Billboard song charts. Unfortunately Kamakawiwo’ole would pass away a few short years after its initial release, never truly being able to take in the scale of his own success.

Meme of the Week:

Wellness Tip of the Week:

Get morning sunlight as close to waking up as possible

Sunday Motivation:

WHO’S GONNA CARRY THE BOATS?!?!

Hoss of the Week:

Seth Botos

Q: What would your death row meal be?

Botos: I’ve always wondered what the light dongle on an angler fish tasted like. My guess is not great, but I’d hate to die without knowing. Added bonus that it would probably take them a while to find one, which will delay the execution. Also one key to get out of the prison on the side.

The Mav Cam:

Now I’m lying on the cold hard ground! 🎶

Leaderboard:

This month’s prize: $50 Amex gift card. Winner will be announced on September 30th. Click here to submit.

Until next week,
