Date Spot of the Week:

Banc Cafe (Murray Hill)

Cuisine: Modern American / Drinks
Pros: Loads of shareable dishes, lot of seating so not hard to get a res
Cons: Loud
Good for date #: 1
Note: It’s a recent post-grad hot spot, so avoid if your date is over the age of 25.

Headline of the Week:

Well… there goes the neighborhood…

I’d like to imagine this was a group of high school kids who used their fakes to jack up on mudslides at Gazebo, maybe sneak into Cru, and steal their boy Tucker’s Dad’s yacht like some sort of Fairfield County Superbad / Ferris Bueller type flick. I know it was an older sleaze bag and the story is a whole lot darker but let me have my fun.

Win of the Week:

Trea Turner goes on paternity leave exactly 9 months after inking $300M contract

Top 3 Most Important Chaunces of Your Life:

  1. Losing your v-card

  2. The night of your wedding

  3. The night you sign a $300M contract to play baseball

What a life.

Matrix L of the Week:

Aaron Rodgers goes to the US Open

As a Bears fan, it is super relieving to admit my long-standing love and appreciation for the mad man that is Aaron Rodgers. He’s a caricature of “independent thinkers” and does not care what you think. “Thank you Aaron, very based!”

Man of the Week:

Anthony Richardson

From @jasrifootball on Twitter:

After a gathering with a bunch of other rookies following the draft, Anthony Richardson stayed at the event when everyone else left so he could clean up a giant mess left by the players so that the staff (who was there to clean the mess) wouldn't have to do it themselves. Richardson said it was “unfair” to “ make the staff clean the mess up when it was left there by himself and the others. He literally refused to leave, despite being told multiple times he didn’t have to do it. Richardson said : “We left this room in an unacceptable condition, and it’s not right for us to expect the staff to clean it all up.”

Hoss move before he even stepped on the field for game 1. You’ve got a new fan, Anthony Richardson.

Woman of the Week:

Coco Gauff

Credit: Ravens12

At just 19 years old, Coco Gauff has won the US Open. That is the professional achievement of a lifetime before she’s even able to have her first drink. She is in for a hell of a career, and tennis fans are in for a hell of a ride.

Clown(s) of the Week:

Kanye West and Bianca Censori

Kanye and his girl would not be on this list if they pulled this off on the Staten Island Ferry. It would be hilarious. They would not be on this list if they pulled it off on the 7 Train. It would be hilarious. They would not be on this list if they pulled this off on a Spirit Airlines flight heading to Fort Lauderdale. See a pattern here? Venice is a culture hub and very special place, and deserves much much better. Figure it out, hoss.

Last-Minute Waiver Add of the Week:

Deon Jackson, RB, Indianapolis Colts

Zack Moss is doubtful. Jonathan Taylor is out. While serving as the lead back last year, Jackson put up some monster numbers. Rookie Evan Hull may dampen his value just a tad but, for fantasy owners in deeper leagues who are in a pinch, Jackson has some fun upside heading into Week 1.

Bench Stash of the Week:

Roschon Johnson, RB, Chicago Bears

If he wasn’t sharing carries with Bijan Robinson, Roschon would have had the numbers to be a top 2 round draft pick out of Texas. The Bears have a crowded backfield to start the year with Khalil Herbert and D’Onta Foreman but theres a high likelihood that a dogfight for playing time breaks out, and Roschon would not be a bad dog to bet on.

Athlete You Probably Forgot About of the Week:

Jersey of the Week:

Calgary Flames 2021-2022 Reverse Retro

Movie of the Week:

Thunder Road (Short, 2016)

I’m going to link this below if you have 12min of your day to spare, here are the 3 reasons to watch:

  1. Jim Cummings (the actor/director) is the type of guy that anybody who subscribes to this newsletter would like to get a beer with. Not something you see every day in Hollywood, support a young buck.

  2. The entire short is done in a single take with no cuts. The amount of talent that takes both in front of the camera and behind it is outstanding, and the performance he delivers is both hilarious and emotional.

  3. Christopher Nolan saw his work while browsing for movies on the plane and personally invited him to audition for Oppenheimer. Real recognize real.

You might not know his name now, but Jim Cummings will be a household name in the coming years, you can mark my words.

Movie Quote of the Week:

“Amateurs seek the sun. Get eaten. Power stays in the shadows.” - Lewis Strauss, Oppenheimer (2023)

Song of the Week:

Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door by Guns & Roses (1991)

Click on the image to listen. Credit: Cole Bement

Bob Dylan wrote this song in 1973 about a sheriff who just got shot in combat and was “knocking on Heaven’s door”. Ironically, a skirmish with law enforcement is what inspired Axl Rose to cover the song in ‘91. They would perform it for the first time in an attempt to calm down a rioting crowd.

Meme of the Week:

Wellness Tip of the Week:

Breathe through your nose to improve your jawline / facial structure

Hoss of the Week:

Lucas Colagrossi

Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?

Colagrossi: As a child, I harbored aspirations of becoming either a lawyer or a DJ. My youthful passion lay in engaging in spirited debates; I relished the role of a contrarian, eagerly exploring the intricacies of arguments that challenged prevailing opinions. This intellectual playground was my source of amusement.

Growing up in the dual milieu of Brazil and the United States, I often felt like a chameleon. I existed in a dynamic state, neither wholly American nor entirely Brazilian. This compelled me to develop the art of balancing diverse cultures and perspectives, a skill I deemed essential.

This harmonious blend of cultural duality seamlessly transitioned into my fervor for music. My musical tastes are quite eclectic, spanning a wide spectrum of genres. What truly ignites my passion is curating playlists and orchestrating tracks that ignite the crowd's enthusiasm.

In my high school and college days, I embarked on a side journey as a DJ, breathing life into countless parties. The exhilaration of selecting a track that could summon a throng to the dance floor never failed to energize me. It was these moments, when music transformed into a unifying force, that cemented my love for the art of DJing.
