Date Spot of the Week:

Cathédrale (East Village)

Cuisine: French
Pro’s: Great menu, occasional live music
Con’s: Can be a bit loud, outdoor seating is not worth it
Good for Date #: 3+

Headline of the Week:

Now I know what you’re thinking…. “That thing looks like a paper machete doll, it can’t possibly be real”, “We have been hearing rumors about aliens for years, what makes this time any different?”, and I thought the same thing….. but then I looked at that guys face. That is not the face of “let me go viral on social media for a hoax and try to cash out”. That is the face of “I wish it wasn’t true, but it is.” He is the protagonist of a sci-fi movie where the world doesn’t believe him… until they have no choice but to.

Win of the Week:

Robert Saleh and the Jets defeat the Bills on 9/11

Saleh’s brother was working on the South Tower during the 9/11 attacks. Fortunately for he and his family, he survived, but the close call with death was enough for Saleh to rethink his life. He left his job in finance and went straight into coaching. 22 years later, after losing his star QB on the 4th play of his career as a Jet, he would rally his team to an overtime victory against the favorited Buffalo Bills. Not all victories are created equal, this one certainly wasn’t.

Matrix L of the Week:

Aaron Rodgers clowns Keith Olbermann on Disney-owned ESPN

Aaron Rodgers mocking the mob on their very own platform and helping to make it mainstream to do so. That smile says it all - keep doing you A-Rodg.

Man of the Week:

Stephen King

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Stephen King, one of the most influential writers of all time, claimed to have played Lou Bega’s Mambo #5 - considered by some to be the worst song of all time - so often on repeat, to the point where his wife said, and I quote, “One more time and I’m going to f*cking leave you.” He claimed that it helped him write.

Wow. So much to unpack here. First, let’s take a look at his body of work: IT, Doctor Sleep, The Shining, etc. Not exactly the type of music you’d expect would inspire some of the most blood curdling fiction all time. Second, hats off to the man for taking himself off of the ivory tower. He’s totally the type of guy that comes off as if he listens to Tchaikovsky while he writes, but no - his taste is no better than yours or mine.

Clown(s) of the Week:

DraftKings

I don’t know what I can say that hasn’t already been said. I can assure you that this parlay was not created by somebody who has ever lived in New York, or the East coast at all for that matter. *Cough cough* California….

Bench Stash of the Week:

Luke Musgrave, TE, Green Bay Packers

Anyone who watched last weeks matchup vs the Bears know that Musgrave’s 3 receptions for 50 yards only tell half the story of his debut; 2 rookie mistakes cost him a touchdown and a 20+ yard gain, respectively. Despite these blunders, Jordan Love clearly trusts him and, as he matures and develops throughout the season, those mistakes will cease, turning into the production that he could have and should have had. Musgrave is certainly worth the add at an otherwise desolate TE position.

Random Athlete Generator:

Pero Antic

Jersey of the Week:

University of Oregon Football Alternate Jersey

Rare W from a school whose target audience appears to be middle schoolers who wear neon Nike elites with their Sperrys

Movie of the Week:

Clerks (1994)

Made for just $27K, Kevin Smith’s raunchy/relateable comedy was bought by none other than Harvey Weinstein (that used to be a cool thing) at Sundance, catapulting Smith and his buddies into the limelight. With this movie, Smith proved that you don’t need the technical know-how / fancy equipment to make a great movie - just a great script.

Song of the Week:

The Dog Days Are Over by Florence & the Machine (2008)

Click the image to listen.

Not gonna lie, when this song came on at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 I thought 2 things: 1. wtf is this song 2. this is really how they’re ending the franchise? Well apparently I’m in the minority here and some how missed one of the hottest songs of 2008. Months after the movies release I am still bumping with regularity.

Meme of the Week:

Wellness Tip of the Week:

Workout within the first 3 hours of your day

Wisdom of the Week:

“Planning and preparation are useful until they become a form of procrastination.”- James Clear

Sunday Motivation:

Quote of the Week:

“Santa’s gotta deliver his gifts. He ain’t got no time to enjoy his cookies.” Deion Sanders on if he ever soaks in the moment

It has also since come out that Sanders power ranks his children. Something tells me that it wasn’t out of the ordinary to receive coal in the Sanders household..

Hoss of the Week:

Colby Sherwyn

Q: If you could tell your 15 year old self one thing, what would it be?

C. Sherwyn: I would tell 15 year old Colby to take tennis seriously and drop baseball. I found my love for tennis a little bit out of college, and by then it became too late to make anything tangible of it outside of recreational tournaments. Whil baseball was an instrumental part of my growth and development, I never experienced the same raw infatuation compared to my emotions towards tennis. That sport has a total chokehold on me, to the point where I’ve googled tennis coach salaries several times. When I’m on the court, nothing else matters, in the most holistic, genuine sense. It’s intense, it’s fast paced, it’s grueling, it’s a robust test to the mind and body, and I can’t ever get enough of it.

The Mav Cam:

“Suhhh Dude” (featuring Big Bear)
